About surveillance in Türkiye
West Nile virus surveillance in Türkiye is run by the General Directorate of Public Health (Halk Sağlığı Genel Müdürlüğü) of the Ministry of Health, through its Zoonotic and Vector-Borne Diseases Department. For the 2025 transmission season, ECDC's cross-country report (data to 3 December 2025) recorded one locally-acquired human West Nile virus case in Türkiye, spread by Culex pipiens mosquitoes. ECDC publishes WNV deaths only as a Europe-wide total, so no per-country death figure is reported.
Frequently asked questions
What mosquito-borne diseases is Türkiye monitoring in 2026?
Mosticare tracks Türkiye surveillance for West Nile virus, each sourced to the responsible national authority or ECDC.
How many West Nile virus cases did Türkiye report in 2025?
Türkiye reported 1 West Nile virus case in 2025 (2025 transmission season), per ECDC · Surveillance of West Nile virus infections in Europe (monthly report, data to 3 December 2025).
How many West Nile virus cases did Türkiye report in 2025?
ECDC's cross-country surveillance of West Nile virus infections in Europe recorded one locally-acquired (autochthonous) human case in Türkiye for the 2025 season, based on data to 3 December 2025. ECDC reports West Nile virus deaths only as a Europe-wide total, so there is no separate Türkiye death figure. This follows Türkiye's largest recorded WNV season in 2024, when 99 human cases were reported to ECDC.
Which mosquitoes carry disease risk in Türkiye?
West Nile virus in Türkiye is spread mainly by the common house mosquito (Culex pipiens). Türkiye is also relevant to invasive Aedes species: ECDC VectorNet records the Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) as present and spreading, and ECDC notes the yellow-fever mosquito (Aedes aegypti) has spread into north-eastern Türkiye from the Black Sea region. No locally-acquired dengue or chikungunya cases were reported for Türkiye in 2025.

About this data
Mosticare aggregates and re-publishes vector-borne disease surveillance from ECDC, EFSA, and national ministries of health. Mosticare is an aggregator, not a primary surveillance authority — every figure on this page cites the originating source and is independently verifiable. This is a partial aggregation; for the complete EU/EEA totals, ECDC is the primary source.
