Belarus sits outside the EU/EEA West Nile surveillance run by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), so no recent annual national case count is published. The national authority is the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. West Nile virus circulation is nonetheless documented: a virologic and serologic study (Central European Journal of Public Health, 2003) isolated the virus from mosquitoes, birds and a patient and found human antibodies in 1.7% of the population. Culex pipiens is the relevant vector; invasive Aedes mosquitoes are not recorded as established.
